Department of Animal Science

Department of Animal Science at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the fields of Animal Nutrition, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Animal Biotechnology, Farm Animal Physiology and Management. The Department was nominated and selected as “The Center for Excellence in Animal Science” in 2000 for a 10 year duration. The research priority in this department is “The application of Agricultural Sciences in farms and the effective utilization of agricultural by-products for milk, meat and egg production”.

The aim of the Department of Animal Science which was established in 1975 is to train undergraduate students as experts for working in farms managing the production units. For the postgraduate students the aim is to make them capable of planning, doing research, advising animal and agricultural farms and feeding pre-parathion industries. There is a strong tradition of training outstanding students and researchers in the field of Animal Science in our department in the Khorasan Razavi province, North-East of Iran.

The Master’s program (launched in 1987) attempts to train MS students to become capable of carrying out research in the fields of Animal Nutrition, Animal Physiology, Animal Nutrition, Genetics, Poultry Nutrition as well as supervision of farm animals and feed.

Educational areas of specialization in the M.S. program are: Genetics and Breeding, Animal Physiology, Animal Nutrition, Poultry Nutrition

In the Ph.D. program we aim to train students to become capable of solving animal production problems through appropriate research with respect to environmental sustainability. We also try to develop effective teaching skills in Ph.D. students.

Educational areas of specialization in the Ph.D. program are: Ruminant Nutrition, Animal Genetics and Breeding, Poultry Nutrition. More
